Yes, I know it's hard to believe but I'm actually writing a real entry after a long period of time has passed.  I've just had a lot to do and nothing much exciting has gone on in my life for a while other than school.

Let me just say that I absolutely love my practicum.  I've completed my second week, but really my first week of actually interacting with the kids.  I love them to death!  They are so cute and I love how they just want to tell you their life story everytime you talk to them, although I have to keep them on track when I'm trying to teach a lesson.  I thought I was going to be really nervous standing up in front of them and teaching but honestly it felt comfortable.  It felt like God was giving me reassurance saying, "See?  I told you this was my plan for you."  I was a little nervous but it was the type of nerves that happens when you're just in a new experience, good nerves.  Even though it was my first week teaching, my university supervisor came and observed me teaching.  It was just the luck of the draw because in order for her to see every student by the end of the semester some people needed to be observed this week.  It went well though.  She really loved my lesson and wrote all good comments on my observation sheet.  My mentoring teacher is awesome as well.  She's not afraid to give me constructive criticism and basically lets me  use any of her supplies as long as I'm using it to teach lessons.  That makes it nice when I have to do things like bulletin boards for a portfolio and I'm a poor college student.  I've enjoyed every minute of my practicum so far and I can't wait for next week.

Speaking of education...My new favorite place on campus is the Learning Resource Center (LRC).  If you don't know what it is, probably the short way to explain it is a library for teachers.  They have textbooks and basal sets (teacher manuals) for every textbook that is currently adopted in local school systems as well as tons and tons of childrens books videos, laptops, iPods, digital cameras, tape recorders, and many other pieces of technology for check out.  It's pretty awesome and Brooke the librarian is the sweetest or any of the staff in the LRC.  You can ask them for help or even just for trying to generate ideas for lessons.  This morning I was there when the LRC opened and I was the only one in there and I found it funny Brooke asked me if I'd seen the latest Strong Bad e-mail because she and the other staff were watching it.  This definitely isn't your typical library.

I'm hanging out in Cookevegas this weekend so if you're here give me a call on my cell.  No one is here at the moment, but I think I'm going to enjoy just getting to chill out for a little bit on my own and maybe I'll actually get some work done.  I need to figure out my schedule for next semester at some point since I have advisement soon.  I also need to study for Praxis II.  Praxis II consists of 4 parts that you must pass for certification and I'm going to take the first part (Reading Across the Curriculum) in the middle of November.  I think each part is 2 hours and you can take 2 (maybe 3) in the same day, but I only feel prepared for one of the tests at the moment.  You just have to pass them all before student teaching.

Well, I guess that's all for now.  I think I'm going to go get something to eat.  Maybe I'll write again before the weekend is over.
